A bill in the North Carolina legislature that would change the definition of a nonprofit employee in regard to collecting workers’ compensation benefits passed the House last week and has been referred to committee by the Senate.
House Bill 760, also called the Regulatory Reform Act, was filed mid-April. Its newest version includes an amendment to define “employee” under the Workers’ Compensation Act to exclude volunteers and officers of any non-profit group from mandatory coverage.
