Workers who belong to a religious sect who conscientiously oppose public and private insurance benefits would be allowed to opt out of workers’ compensation coverage, under a bill introduced in Indiana.
Senate Bill 264, by Sen. Eric Bassler, R-Washington, would require workers wishing to opt out of comp coverage to file an affidavit stating that they are a member of a sect that opposes the concept of insurance benefits and that has an alternative method for sharing the costs of medical expenses and lost income for work-related injuries.
