California's 5th District Court of Appeal on Tuesday heard oral argument about whether a correctional officer's death while traveling home after working an overtime shift should be compensable. The case was Lantz v. WCAB (Pleasant Valley Prison), No. F065934.Lieutenant Seth Patrick Lantz typically only worked until 10 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley Prison, but he believed that he had to work overtime in emergency situations. On the night of Oct. 1, 2012, he "held over" to work a mandatory overtime shift, and eventually started driving home at 6 a.m. He was killed in a collision ...
