South Florida Woman Sentenced to 18 Months' Probation in Injury-Faking Case

Wednesday, May 3, 2017 | 0

A South Florida woman was sentenced to 18 months of probation after security camera footage proved she hit herself with a sprinkler head to fake an on-the-job injury, Tampa's Fox affiliate reported on the nightly news Monday.

Security footage from Sheyla Veronica White's Fort Lauderdale-area employer shows her working at her desk on Oct. 1, 2015, when a portion of the overhead sprinkler system dislodged. The sprinkler head fell onto her desk, behind her computer. The footage then shows her picking up the sprinkler head and hitting herself in the forehead with it.

Detectives from Florida's Division of Investigative and Forensic Services obtained the security camera footage at the request of the insurance company processing White's claim. She was charged with, and later convicted of, workers' compensation fraud. She had not yet received benefits from the claim.
