Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul filed a lawsuit accusing a construction company of misclassifying workers and paying them in cash in an effort to skirt laws intended to protect workers.
Drive Construction, which specializes in carpentry, plumbing and masonry, allegedly secured $40 million worth of contracts on public works projects between 2015 and 2020. The attorney general alleges that workers on those projects were paid under the table and did not receive the prevailing wage mandated by state law.
