Minnesota's work safety agency has fined Rahr Malting Co. $52,800 for safety violations identified after a worker was killed on the job in January.
Kelly Clifford Hoban, 58, of South St. Paul, died of blunt force injuries after falling into a 56-foot-wide grain bin at the malt plant in Shakopee and becoming entangled in the machine's rotation scrapers.
The company was cited for four serious safety violations, including failure to place guarding material around machines and failure to prevent machines from automatically turning on.
