Worker Gets Benefits for Amputation of Leg after Swelling from Broken Foot Led to Infection

The Oregon Court of Appeals upheld an award of benefits to a worker who had his leg amputated as a result of an infection which his doctors blamed on the swelling in his foot from an on-the-job injury. Case: SAIF Corp. v. DeMarco, No. 224, 05/13/2015, published. Facts: Daniel DeMarco, an employee of TNT Management Resources, suffered a broken foot when a glass shower door fell onto it. The SAIF Corp., which provided comp coverage for TNT, accepted DeMarco's claim. It paid for treatment of his foot, as well as larger-sized work boots to accommodate the swelling of his foot.
