Regulators Tweak Formulary Rules to Notify Worker of Preauthorization Need

After discussions with stakeholders, state regulators have made some minor changes to the new workers' compensation drug formulary, the Department of Workers' Claims announced Thursday. The last sentence of Section 3, subsection 3 has been amended to read, “Within two business days of presentation of a prescription drug with an 'N' status without articulated sound medical reasoning, the insurance carrier shall notify the medical provider and injured employee that pre-authorization is required for the prescribed drug.” The change adds “injured employee”...
