The California Assembly passed a bill that would presume cancer is an occupational disease for anyone working at a fire department who is exposed to potential health hazards.
California law presumes cancer arose out of employment for active firefighters. Assembly Bill 1400, by Assemblywoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove, D-Los Angeles, would expand the presumption to anyone who faces health risks relating to firefighting activities.
The Assembly voted 73-0 to pass the bill on Monday.
