The Idaho Falls School District in 2011 illegally fired an employee who raised concerns about unsafe asbestos removal, according to a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Labor.
The former employee believed a construction project would require removing asbestos from one of the district's schools, but the timeline was so tight that it wouldn't allow enough time to adhere to regulations intended to prevent the accidental release of asbestos fibers. After voicing the concern, the employee was fired, the DOL said in a statement announcing the lawsuit.
