Judge Rules Delay Doomed Freelancers' Bid for Injunction in AB 5 Case

A federal judge ruled that freelance writers and photographers waited too long to request an injunction prohibiting the State of California from applying a new test of employment status while a constitutional challenge to the new law plays out. The American Society of Journalists and Authors and the National Press Photographers Association filed with the federal court for Central California a complaint Dec. 17 arguing that Assembly Bill 5 violates the First Amendment right to a free press.
