Volunteer Rescue Worker Gets Comp Benefits for Injuries from Car Accident en Route to Meeting

Colorado's Court of Appeals last week ruled that a volunteer member of the Teller County Search and Rescue team was actually a county employee and therefore entitled to workers' compensation benefits for his injuries from a head-on car crash. The search and rescue team has about 50 members, who are all uncompensated for their services. They assume responsibility for the search and rescue operations over hundreds of square miles of rugged national forest land in El Paso, Douglas, Park and Fremont Counties – including a portion of Pike’s Peak.
