The California Workers' Compensation Institute has released a report on the way the independent medical-review system worked in 2014.
The report, which CWCI released Saturday, shows much of the same information the Division of Workers' Compensation has released, including an upheld rate of about 91%. That means that in about nine out of every 10 cases, the independent medical reviewer agrees that the utilization-review doctor's determination was correct – almost always resulting in a denial of treatment.
