Providence Spent $108,000 on Private Investigators for Fraud Fighting

Providence, Rhode Island, has spent $108,000 since 2011 to investigate city employees and retirees they suspect of defrauding taxpayers by way of workers’ compensation abuse and other “disciplinary matters,” according to a WPRI.com report. In one case, the Providence Retirement Board suspended the accidental disability benefits of John Sauro, a retired firefighter, after the city launched an investigation following a WPRI report.
