Kansas Gov. Jeff Colyer has signed into law a bill that increases death benefits, including a hike in maximum benefits to dependents, to $100,000 from $18,500.
Labor activists lauded passage of a rare labor-friendly bill after the State Senate approved House Bill 2184 by in a 35-5 vote on March 27. The House approved the bill 112-11 in May 2017.
The bill was introduced by the House Committee on Commerce, Labor and Economic Development to update death benefit statutes that had not changed since the 1970s.
