In an effort to curb California’s multibillion dollar underground economy of unlicensed and uninsured contractors, the state’s Department of Insurance conducted a statewide sweep, visiting 75 different businesses and issuing citations, according to a release from the Department of Industrial Relations.
Of the 75 businesses visited, one-third received licensing and insurance citations, including for not having proper workers’ compensation insurance, resulting in nearly $300,000 in fines.
