Small Business Chamber Puts Savings from Rate Battles at $185 Million

The South Carolina Small Business Chamber of Commerce said in a 2009 legislative agenda released last week that its administrative court fights with the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) have saved employers $185 million since 2006.The Small Business Chamber and South Carolina Consumer Advocate Elliott Elam Jr. have gone to court twice since 2006 to contest NCCI's requests to boost loss costs by 32.9% in 2005 and 23.7% in 2007.Chief Administrative Law Judge Marvin Kittrell trimmed the first requested increase to 18.4% effective Dec. 1, 2006.
