A Northern California correctional officer accused of filing a workers' compensation claim for a softball injury pleaded no contest to fraud charges, according to a report by Bay City News Service.
Mark Navarrete changed his plea from "not guilty" to "no contest" on Tuesday. He faces up to five years in county jail at a sentencing hearing scheduled for Feb. 24.
Navarrete was off-duty when he injured his arm playing softball in July. The injury required surgery on his left elbow, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office.
