Auditors' Penalties Fall With Drop in Unpaid Compensation

Penalties collected from claims handlers throughout California fell by more than half in the Division of Workers’ Compensation’s latest audit, which found the lowest amount of unpaid compensation in more than a decade. The division collected $442,457 in penalties for violations uncovered in 2016 from four shops that didn’t pass the first round of the profile audit review, or PAR, according to a report to the Legislature published Monday.
