Reoperation, Readmission Rates for Lumbar Surgery Higher in Comp, WCRI Reports

The percentage of workers’ compensation patients undergoing lumbar spine surgery who needed reoperation or readmission within one to three months following the procedure is higher than what’s reported for non-work comp patients, according to a new study from WCRI. The Workers Compensation Research Institute reports that 7% of comp patients who had lumbar spine surgery needed a second operation within 30 to 90 days following the first procedure.
