Services Held for Two Longtime WC Lawyers

Wednesday, November 14, 2018 | 0

Two longtime Chicago-area workers' compensation attorneys died this month, and the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission noted their passing.

Ross Tyrrell, an Oak Park resident, died Nov. 2 at the age of 77. Mark Braun died Nov. 3 at age 93.

Tyrell was named to the list of Super Lawyers in Illinois, 2006 through 2010. He was a graduate of Chicago-Kent College of Law, and specialized in workers' compensation and personal injury law. A service was held Nov. 8.

Braun graduated from Loyola University School of Law in 1949 and began his career with Klohr & Merrick, concentrating in workers' compensation law, according to his obituary. A private funeral was held Nov. 10.

He argued one case before the U.S. Supreme Court and dozens of cases before the Illinois Supreme Court, appellate courts and in federal court, including a challenge to the governor's rejection of Occupational Safety and Health Administration jurisdiction.

He also served as chair of the workers' compensation committee for the Illinois Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute, and the Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel.

"The entire Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission extends our condolences," reads a bulletin from the agency.
