The National Academy of Social Insurance estimates that California accounts for nearly $1 out of every $5 paid in workers’ compensation benefits throughout the country.
NASI reports that state and federal work comp programs covered more than 138 million jobs and $7.4 trillion in payroll in 2016, according to a California Workers’ Compensation Institute bulletin summarizing the findings. The programs paid out $31.1 billion for medical care and $30.8 billion in cash benefits.
