The state Senate on Wednesday voted unanimously to approve a new employment contract that will raise wages and provide workers’ compensation coverage to 8,500 home-care workers.
The three-year contract with the Personal Care Attendant Workforce Council and New England Health Care Employees Union sets out the compensation plan for home-care workers. They are employed by their clients but are paid with funds from the federal Medicaid program and the state through a waiver program that seeks to avoid the cost of housing Medicaid recipients who need personal care in nursing homes.
