Health care providers in Nevada would be required to use the state's prescription drug-monitoring database when prescribing controlled substances under a bill passed by the state Senate last week.
Senate Bill 459, introduced by the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services, would mandate any provider who prescribes a controlled substance report the prescription to the state's drug-monitoring database by the end of the next business day.
The measure would also require a provider obtain a patient utilization report before initiating a prescription for a controlled substance.
