A bill that would add correctional officers to the list of public safety workers for whom hypertension, heart disease and certain infectious diseases are presumed to be work-related has been introduced in the Virginia legislature.
House Bill 107, by Delegate John Bell, D-Chantilly, was pre-filed on Thursday. It is awaiting committee assignment in the House.
The bill would add correctional officers to a long list of employees who are entitled to a presumption that hypertension or heart disease are occupational diseases compensable under the Virginia Workers' Compensation Act.
