Medical care is taking a larger share of total workers’ compensation spending across the country, but Maine appears to be on a different track.
A report by the National Council on Compensation Insurance, released by the Maine Workers’ Compensation Commission this week, shows that 45% of the state’s total benefits costs went to medical care in 2015, compared to an average of 58% in the 38 states where NCCI tracks data.
Nationwide, the medical spend increased from 56% of total benefits in 2006, while Maine’s medical share decreased from 54% that year.
