Samuel Spina told doctors that a knee injury prevented him from returning to work as an aide at a youth detention center, but investigators say he was well enough to play goalie for the Tighty Whities hockey team.
Spina, of Rome, was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, insurance fraud in the third degree and three counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, all felonies, the New York Inspector General's Office said in a press release Thursday.
