A bill that would abolish the Alaska Workers’ Compensation Appeals Commission is now in the state Senate after winning unanimous approval by the House of Representatives this week.
House Bill 69 would send all appeals of workers’ compensation claims to the state superior courts starting June 1 and disband the Appeals Commission entirely on Dec. 31. The commission would work through its current workload in the latter half of the year. Any cases still pending would be transferred to the superior courts on Jan. 1.
