Court Rejects Family's Tort Claims Against Property Owner for Death of Oil Rig Worker

A Texas appellate court ruled that the family of an oil rig worker did not have a viable claim against a property owner for the worker’s fatal accident. Case: Cuevas v. Endeavor Energy Resources, No. 11-15-00157-CV, 07/27/2017, published. Facts: Endeavor Energy Resources has several oil and gas leases in Midland County. Endeavor hired Big Dog Drilling to drill a well pursuant to one of its leases. Angel Cuevas Jr. worked for Big Dog. He suffered a blow to the head while working on a Big Dog rig when a pulley system malfunctioned. Cuevas later died from his injury. Procedural History...
