Unitrin, Inc. (NYSE:UTR) reported yesterday a total net loss of $18.1 million ($0.27 per common share) for the three months ended September 30, 2002, compared to total net income of $20.1 million ($0.30 per common share) for the same period in 2001. Results for the third quarter decreased due primarily to poor results in the Multi Lines Insurance segment, lower net income from sales of investments and lower income from investees.
