Researchers Hope to Improve Safe Patient-Handling Practices in Nursing Homes

Researchers at Cleveland State University, funded by a $244,000 grant from the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, are wrapping up a two-year project to improve safe patient-handling practices in nursing homes. A 200-page report detailing the project is expected to be finalized later this week, said lead researcher Wenbing Zhao, a professor in CSU’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Zhao, the only engineer on the six-member research team, developed his own technology for the project by adapting Kinect, a $150 add-on that Microsoft developed for its Xbox...
