Two self-insurance pools that provide workers' compensation coverage for more than 200 Illinois municipalities have jumped into the litigation against opioid drug manufacturers and distributors.
The Intergovernmental Risk Management Agency and the Intergovernmental Personnel Benefit Cooperative, both based in Illinois, this week filed suit in Cook County Circuit Court, charging that opioid use among injured workers has become all too common, thanks in part to misleading information campaigns by drugmakers.
