New Workforce Commission Director Takes Over

Monday, January 11, 2016 | 0

Following her appointment by incoming Gov. John Bel Edwards, Ava Dejoie takes over as executive director of Louisiana's Workforce Commission Monday, succeeding Curt Eysink.

Dejoie has worked for 15 years in public administration and workforce development, most recently as a rapid response coordinator for the commission.

Eysink was the commission's executive director for just over six years, appointed by Gov. Bobby Jindal in 2009. A native of South Africa, Eysink earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from LSU and later worked as city editor of The Advocate newspaper.

He was marketing director for the Louisiana Health Care Review before joining the workforce commission in 2008.

A highly complimentary profile in Business Report magazine credits him with, among other achievements, helping to bring down workers' compensation costs for employers and increasing the number of misclassified workers identified.
