A Florida judge has rejected a grocery chain’s request to throw out a lawsuit filed by the family of a worker who died after contracting COVID-19, according to media reports.
An attorney for Publix on Friday argued that the lawsuit should be dismissed because the death was a workers’ compensation matter and the family shouldn't be able to sue, The Miami Herald reported.
Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Carlos Lopez, however, denied the company’s request, saying Publix would have to respond to the family’s lawsuit by Feb. 25, according to The Herald.
