The work comp industry’s fascination with New York’s Black Car Fund seems to be growing and may be getting a boost from California Assembly Bill 5, legislation enacted last month that could classify many gig-economy workers as employees rather than independent contractors.
The National Council of Insurance Legislators is planning a session during its December national meeting on how states and businesses are responding to the continued growth of the gig economy through legislation, regulation and new products. It is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. Dec.11.
