A Buffalo man was arrested Wednesday on charges of collecting nearly $10,000 in workers' compensation benefits meant for the deceased woman he had cared for two years earlier.
Michael Barton, 57, was charged with felony grand larceny in the third degree, New York State Workers' Compensation Fraud Inspector General Catherine Leahy Scott announced this week.
Barton and an accomplice allegedly cashed $9,953 in checks from the state meant to provide workers' compensation benefits to a woman who died in July 2012. Prosecutors say they cashed the checks until September 2014.
