Committee to Hear Bill That Would Allow First Responders to Sue Government Employers

Legislation that would allow first responders to sue state and local governments is headed to a hearing today. House Bill 451 would allow a first responder who alleges discrimination because of a workers’ compensation claim to sue his government employer. The bill, by Rep. Joe Moody, D-El Paso, waives sovereign immunity and caps damages at $100,000.
