Trial Begins in Lackawanna County Corruption Case

Jury selection was set to begin Monday in the corruption trial of Lackawanna County, Pa., Commissioner A. J. Munchak and former Commissioner Robert Cordaro. Allegations of bribery and extortion involve a contract for administration of the county's workers' compensation pool, among other issues.The two officials were named in a 40-count indictment handed down in March 2010, alleging theft, bribery, extortion, money laundering, racketeering and tax evasion.The Wilkes-Barre Times Leader reported that jury selection was scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. (EDT) and was expected to be completed...
