Bill Would Extend Debit Card Payments for Another Year

California employers would be allowed to continue using prepaid debit cards for indemnity benefits through the end of 2024, under recently introduced legislation. Assemblywoman Lisa Calderon, D-Whittier, on Tuesday introduced AB 489, which would extend until Jan. 1, 2025, a sunset provision that originates from a five-year-old law allowing employers and carriers to use debit cards to provide wage replacement benefits.
