The U.S. Department of Labor announced that its Division of Coal Mine Workers’ Compensation will host two outreach events in Alabama Wednesday and Thursday for current and former coal miners and their survivors to file or refile benefit claims for those disabled by black lung disease.
The department said the events in Tuscaloosa and Jasper are the first in Alabama and follow similar events in Arizona, New Mexico and Wyoming in 2023 and in Indiana and Illinois in 2022.
