The Illinois Labor Department has adopted regulations requiring construction companies to report workers they classify as independent contractors and set up an investigations and hearings process for accused violators.
The procedures were mandated by Public Acts 98-105 and 98-106, which state lawmakers adopted last session to take effect Jan. 1 of this year.
