Police Officer Can't Get Disability Retirement after Twisting Ankle in Pothole

A New York appellate court ruled that a police officer's ankle injury, after she stepped into a pothole she said she had not seen, was not an "accident" for purposes of an award of accidental disability retirement benefits. Case: Yurko v. DiNaopli, No. 518635, 11/13/2014, published. Facts: Kimberly Yurko worked as a police officer. She twisted her ankle while stepping out of her patrol car upon arriving at a scene to assist with the arrest of a robbery suspect.
