Second Injury Assessment to Increase as Prosthetic Costs Climb

The Indiana Workers’ Compensation Board will have to increase the Second Injury Fund assessment paid by insurers and employers next year after spending more on benefits and prosthetic replacements than it took in, according to a report emailed to stakeholders Thursday by Board Chairwoman Linda Hamilton. In 2017 the Second Injury Fund disbursed $6,339,251, according to the report. The balance of the fund was $2,703,389 as of Sept. 28.
