The Nevada Division of Industrial Relations on Friday announced a 3.24% increase in penalties for workplace safety violations, due to inflation.
State lawmakers in 2019 enacted legislation requiring the DIR to automatically adopt penalties that align with those imposed by the U.S. Department of Labor. The Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act requires the Labor Department to adjust penalties by Jan. 15.
As a result, the DIR said its penalties for workplace safety violations will increase for any citation issued on or after Jan. 15, regardless of when an inspection was open.
