It will be at least another year before Virginia lawmakers will consider a bill that would provide firefighters with an expanded cancer presumption.
The House Appropriations’ Compensation and Retirement Subcommittee by voice vote on Friday recommended continuing House Bill 1245 until 2019.
Introduced Jan. 10 by Delegate Timothy H. Hugo, R-Centreville, the bill would add cancers of the colon, brain and testes to the list of cancers that are presumed to be occupational diseases covered by the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Act.
