The practice of slipping multi-thousand-dollar tubes of pain cream past Texas workers' comp insurers will become much more difficult under proposed rules to require preauthorization for all compounds. Texas is proposing to join Tennessee, Kansas, Oklahoma and California in requiring all compounded medications to undergo scrutiny, even if they consist of nothing but preferred, or “Y,” drug ingredients on the state's drug formulary.
