The American International Group Board of Directors will transfer to a new chairman on July 1.
Doug Steenland, who has served on the AIG board since 2010, will take on leadership of the board on that day, the company announced in a Thursday press release. He will succeed Robert Miller, who has served as chairman for five years.
AIG's corporate governance guidelines discourage chairmen from serving for more than five years. Miller and Steenland are both running for re-election to the board at the company's annual meeting on May 13.
