CWCI: Use of Compound Drugs, Med Foods Are Up

By Greg Griggs, EditorState regulations designed to curb abuses in repackaged drugs coincided with an increase in the use of compounded drugs, medical foods and "convenience packs" that combine prescription drugs and medical foods, according to a study released this week by the California Workers’ Compensation Institute (CWCI).The institute studied more than 3 million prescriptions filled between 2006 and the first quarter of 2009 and determined  bulk and component drugs used in compound medications, co-packs and medical foods accounted for nearly $1 out of every $8 paid for injured...
