Federal prosecutors announced five more people have been charged for their alleged role in a scheme that they say defrauded carriers out of $500 million through illegal spinal hardware markups and kickback payments -- charges which Michael D. Drobot pleaded guilty to last year.
Criminal charges also allege a similar scheme of paying kickbacks for spinal fusions performed at Tri-City Regional Medical Center in Hawaiin Gardens, California, and paying kickbacks of $150 to $200 to doctors for toxicology tests.
