Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee signed a bill giving cannabis users similar employment protections as those California lawmakers bestowed upon Golden State residents in 2022.
Inslee on May 9 enacted SB 5123, by Sen. Karen Keiser, D-Des Moines, making it illegal for an employer to refuse to hire someone based on the applicant’s use of cannabis off-the-job and away from the workplace, or based on a drug test that finds non-psychoactive cannabis metabolites.
The bill does not prohibit employment decisions based on drug tests that can screen for psychoactive cannabis metabolites....
